Rethinking Website Design Innovation

posted By : Admin

For any mode of technology to climb to the highest echelons in today’s social demography, adaptability is of utmost importance. The usage of internet has already started shifting hands- from being heavily trafficked through desktop devices, the inclination towards users being more mobile-centric has been imminent for a long time.

In all honestly the metamorphosis has already begun. Statistical data elucidates upon the gradual increment of mobile-technology driven internet access from 11% in 2011 to a humungous 52.7% in 2015. The ascent is not really uncanny given the general user’s shift towards a more mobile and portable technology (the same construct that led to a shift from desktop to laptop), but it sets forward one clinical fact that cannot be overlooked- the internet now needs a wardrobe makeover to adjust to the audience’s demands (hello).

Until the tilt in mobile user penetration from personal computers to (a more personally indoctrinated) mobile-phones, the prima facie for a website to attract audience was that it had to be ostensibly beautiful and relative to the genre it served. Now however, the internet sphere faces a new challenge- to be adaptable and fit into screen sizes based on the access portals used by the users and that is where a responsive website comes into play. A ‘responsive website’ is nothing but a website that can auto arrange its contents according to the size of the screen it is accessed from. Formerly, when websites were not even remotely responsive, web-content when viewed through mobile screens were redundantly arranged according to the requirements of a personal computer and not the compact design of a mobile or a tablet screen. The content would be unnecessarily stretched, font size would be precariously small and readability was narrowed down to a dot. Responsive websites seek to right that wrong. The contents in the website in this context conform to the parameterized demarcations of any screen and adjust accordingly, giving the users a clean, hassle-free view and enhancing their website experience. What responsive design does however beyond mere user experience enhancement, it maximizes the website’s likeability.
In most cases websites miss out on prospective audience who access through mobile phones since their websites are not curated to fit into the dimensions of a small-sized screen and arrange its contents intelligently. A website using responsive design however is more likely to cater to all its audience since despite the change in screens of access, the content remains symmetrically designed and attains the best fit for any device screen. To add as a bonus, the beautification of such a website is not lost even when it rearranges its content.
